DIY Jesmonite and Ceramic Powder

What are the differences between Raysin Powder and Jesmonite?

• Raysin or ceramic powder is plaster. Plaster is a food-safe material. Of course, don't try adding Raysin powder to your salad! But it can be used to make a dish for unpeeled fruit, or for nuts, for example. It's a material you can use with your children or grandchildren over the age of 6, under your supervision.
• Once hardened, Jesmonite is non-toxic and contains no Volatile Organic Compounds. However, it does contain more compounds than plaster and requires greater care when using it. For this reason, we recommend using it with older children, and with safety precautions (masks, gloves, goggles). Jesmonite is not certified for food use. You'll need to apply a special varnish if you want to use it in contact with solid foods such as unpeeled fruit or nuts.
• Raysin powder is less expensive, but more fragile than Jesmonite.
• You can use the same colorants for both.
